ATACP Study Days and Courses

One of ATACP objectives is to promote and facilitate continuous professional development and educational opportunities in Aquatic Physiotherapy.

You will find a list of Study Days and Courses organised by the ATACP below.

ATACP Study days are one day events that are held in the Spring and Autumn in venues around the country.  Study days offer a great opportunity for aquatic therapy enthusiasts including Physiotherapists, Assistants, Students, Associates and other Professionals to network, learn and to share ideas and can be attended by ATACP members and non members alike. Study day themes vary, covering all aspects of aquatic therapy and are led by specialists within the field including ATACP tutors, guest speakers and clinicians.

ATACP Courses are taught by our ATACP Accredited tutors who offer a number of Foundation and Intermediate courses in Aquatic Therapy.  The Foundation programme is based around the requirements of “Guidance on Good Practice in Hydrotherapy” (ATACP / CSP 2015) and is aimed largely at Band 5/6/7 physiotherapists who have had little or no undergraduate or post graduate experience in aquatic therapy and provides the minimum competency required to work unsupervised in the pool.  The course covers the areas of Hydrostatics and Hydrodynamics, the Physiology of Immersion, Pool Management and the Practical use of water for Strengthening and Mobilising.

This 2 day course forms the taught element of the ATACP Foundation Programme in Aquatic Physiotherapy.  To complete the programme and gain accreditation a formal assessment can be undertaken that includes a theoretical and practical exam and the submission of a case study. The assessment process is only available to HCPC Registered Physiotherapists and costs an additional £250. Please refer to Accreditation Process menu link for further details and application form.

Intermediate courses aim to reinforce and extend the knowledge and skills gained on the Foundation programme increasing participants ability to plan, design and implement safe and effective practice and may be tailored towards an area of specialty. It is recommended that you have either attended a Foundation programme or that you can demonstrate skills/learning to the required level of a Foundation programme prior to attending.
